In culinary applications, seaweed is used in soups, salads, snacks, and seasoning blends. Its natural umami flavor enhances dishes without the need for additional salt or artificial flavoring. Different textures—from crisp and delicate to soft and chewy—make it adaptable to a wide range of recipes.

Beyond food, seaweed plays an important role in food processing and manufacturing. Compounds extracted from certain varieties, such as agar, carrageenan, and alginate, are used as thickening, stabilizing, and gelling agents in numerous products. In agriculture, it is used as a soil conditioner and fertilizer due to its mineral content.

Environmental benefits are also associated with seaweed cultivation. It grows rapidly without the need for freshwater, fertilizers, or arable land, and it can help absorb carbon dioxide and excess nutrients from marine environments.

To maintain quality, dried seaweed should be stored in a cool, dry place, while fresh varieties require refrigeration and prompt use.
